We reported last week that many Afghani families had arrived in Milton Keynes with nothing but the clothes they were wearing. They are being housed and fed in a hotel. Due to the fantastic generosity of the people of MK, many donations of clothes, toys etc were received for them and MK Council and Newport Pagnell Baptist Church, working with MK Borough Councillor Paul Trendall, paused taking donations.

Newport Pagnell Baptist Church write:

“As more Afghan families arrive into our wider community, we’ve been privileged to work with so many different individuals and groups to give them the best possible welcome. We’re so grateful to all those who’ve donated, volunteered and cheered us on.

As we look ahead, we’re now making plans with councillors, charities and other community groups to ensure that this welcome can continue in a co-ordinated way. We hope to know more in the next few days and will update you as soon as we have some news to share.

In the meantime, thank you again for being such a generous community. This week, you have a made a real difference to some people who really needed it.”
