Adrian Boynton writes:
As you know, we have just entered the season of Advent. One of the very special occasions of our musical year at The Church of Christ the Cornerstone is the Advent Carol Service, held on Advent Sunday.
With lockdown restrictions still in place, it has sadly not been possible to hold a live service this year. However, I am pleased to tell you that, thanks to a great deal of hard work and goodwill, we have been able to produce an on-line version of the service.
The service includes familiar passages of scripture read by members of our church community. There is a lovely Reflection by Revd George Mwaura. The Cornerstone Choir offers beautiful settings by Tallis, Phillips, Bach, Mendelssohn, Stainer, Ord, Joubert and Willcocks. Most of these were recorded specially for the on-line service in the window of eased restrictions in October. The Cornerstone Chamber Choir and Orchestra make a ‘guest appearance’ in an archive recording of a great chorus from Handel’s Messiah. Familiar Advent hymns are taken from an earlier recording of one of our Advent Carol Services – so if you have been a regular attendee at our Advent services in the past, your voice may feature in the recording!
I would like to thank Revd George, all the readers, our dedicated choir members, Adrian Yardley, who facilitated, sourced and edited all the recordings and Ian Trimnell for skilful post production, creative visuals and preparation of the final service.
I hope you enjoy our Advent Carol Service 2020. It can be viewed here.
All best wishes
