To be held on Zoom at 7.30pm on Tuesday 15th March 2022.

(Join meeting from 7.15pm onwards)

Rev Dr Paul Smith invites preachers from around Milton Keynes to join us for an evening led by Rev Dr Rob Beamish, Minister of Princes’ Drive Baptist Church, Colwyn Bay. Rob will lead our thinking about crisis preaching based on his doctoral research and thesis.

We will be reflecting together with the aim of helping us improve our thinking and practice as we try and respond to the challenge of preaching in difficult times. Rob gained his doctorate in this subject at King’s College, London and was a near contemporary of Paul’s.

Rob’s argument is that much preaching in response to crises is too human-centred or therapeutic – aiming at healing. Whilst there may be nothing inherently wrong with responding to human need, he argues that crisis preaching should aim to redress the imbalance between the place of humans and the place of God at the centre of our preaching at such times. There needs to be balance between therapeutic and theocentric preaching. Rob’s doctoral research was along practical theology lines – aiming to investigate the actual ways in which church preaching has functioned and what should be the reasons for re-examining and re-framing preaching in response to crises.

Join us for this stimulating and timely gathering!

You do not need to register, but I’d find it helpful to know how many we can expect if you don’t mind dropping me a quick line.

With every blessing,
